Mostly talking to one person

Tues 16th April 2013…We’ve launched the Events strand of Rose Communications this year and our first event is on next week on supporting teenage mental health in the home with David Coleman, yes, it’s the guy on TV who’s also written a few books and of course is a clinical psychologist.  I’m looking forward to getting some tips on communicating with my almost teen that will keep us all sane for the next few years!

What’s been interesting and enjoyable about organising this event is answering the calls from so many different people looking to book tickets. It has reminded me that there is no “one size fits all” in communications because there are as many individual preferences as there are people. Some callers are shy and almost apologizing for calling, when I”m the one hoping they will make a booking! Others are confident and assertive and happy to engage in conversation. Others have a tone of voice that’s straining to stay relaxed, which  and makes me realize how stressed a lot of people are at the moment.

The other fact I’ve realized is that lots of people are still not comfortable or confident with using the web to buy stuff whereas lots of others are delighted with the convenience of online shopping! I’m also learning some really cool sounding place names around Cork that I’d never heard of, like Garryhesta near Ovens, Coolflugh near Blarney or how about Moanroe near Lady’sbridge!

Anyway, the whole experience is a reminder that it’s important to keep mixing up the medium and style when you want to get the message to a lot of people!
